Press Release August 17, 2015
Funtime's SlingShot amusement ride. More than 15 years of safe thrills.
Lienz, Austria (August 17, 2015) - You may have recently heard news stories about an
accident in Agde, France involving a carnival ride. Because of the design of that carnival
ride, some news outlets have generically characterized it as a "slingshot" design.
This creates a problem of identification. Our client, The Funtime Group, manufactures
and sells an amusement device under the trademark "SlingShot." This product is in no
way connected to the carnival ride in Agde, France. Funtime's SlingShot product has
been in use for more than 15 years, and has been safely enjoyed by more than two million
people. FunTime's SlingShot does not utilize rubber ropes or bungee cords like the
elastic cables that snapped in Agde, France. FunTime's SlingShot is powered by a
patented spring propulsion device incorporating up to 720 specially designed springs.
We respectfully request that future news stories about the Agde incident not contain the
word "slingshot." Using that word may well create confusion in the minds of the public,
and could have a damaging effect on the confidence that people have in The Funtime
Group's SlingShot product.
